The invincible, incomparable, unbeatable Cigar inspired racing fans from around the world as he traveled to nine race tracks on two continents to win 16 consecutive races<\/a>, (all but one of them graded Stakes) in a feat that tied the record set by Citation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When he retired to Ashford Stud, Cigar\u2019s book of mares was full, but fertility issues prompted one of the biggest insurance payouts in history, and he was retired to the Hall of Champions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cigar earned Horse of the Year honors in 1995 and 1996, and was named champion older horse each of those years. He retired as the richest Thoroughbred in United States racing history with $9,999,815 in earnings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
